Taking Back Sunday
Title: New Again
Release Date: 1st June 2009
Taking Back Sunday follow their Billboard #2 album ‘Louder Now’ with the June 1st release of their fourth set entitled ‘New Again’. The album heralds the introduction of new guitarist Matt Fazzi (previously of Facing New York) following the departure of Fred Mascherino.
Produced by David Kahne (The Strokes, Paul McCartney) with contributions from Matt Squire (Panic At The Disco), ‘New Again’ is a diverse album from a band freshly inspired and eager to push the boundaries of their sound. It features highlights such as the stadium-sized anthemic title track, the enticing pop hooks of ‘Summer Man’ and the gang-chant rush of ‘Sink Into Me’. The album also focuses on the harder, high energy ‘Swing’ and ‘Lonely, Lonely’, a song that vocalist Adam Lazzara describes as, “One of the most relentless songs we’ve written.”
The band’s fresh enthusiasm has been driven by Fazzi’s introduction. “The excitement and the drive to get out there and play for people is just what it was with our first record; it’s like we bottled that energy”, says Lazzara. Bassist Matt Rubano concurs, adding, “Matt brings an excitement and a fearlessness to working on music that really makes us feel even more that we can do anything and call it us.”
‘New Again’ will be available on CD, Special Edition CD / DVD, download and 12” double vinyl. The DVD includes a substantial ‘making of’ documentary, video footage of the band’s auditions for a new guitarist and track-by-track details. The second disc of the vinyl format includes the first ever vinyl release of the band’s previous album ‘Louder Now’.
‘Sink Into Me’ will be the first single to be taken from the album when it is issued on April 20th as a download single. There will also be an iTunes exclusive for the single to follow on May 25th, complete with a bonus track, details of which will be confirmed imminently.
‘Louder Now’ represented Taking Back Sunday’s major label debut and their biggest breakthrough yet as they co-headlined the Warped tour, performed at the historic Live Earth event and toured with the likes of My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and Jimmy Eat World.
Taking Back Sunday debuted in 2002 with ‘Tell All Your Friends’, an album that like the 2004 follow-up ‘Where You Want To Be’ and ‘Louder Now’ reached Gold status. ‘Where You Want To Be’ was also the band’s first album to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard album chart.
Taking Back Sunday will their first UK shows of the year this April when they headline the GIAN Incoming shows at Brixton Academy (19th) and Manchester Apollo (18th). The festival’s other headliner is Enter Shikari and the bill also includes Underoath, Thursday, The Blackout and Lights.
